He expressed reservations about possible vaccines, encompassing many frequently shared claims:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s so many of our children that are being vaccinated and paralyzed,\u201d he claimed. \u201cSo when they say the way we\u2019re going to fix Covid is with a vaccine, I\u2019m extremely cautious. That\u2019s the mark of the beast. They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can\u2019t cross the gates of heaven.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A lot of this sounds like something you\u2019d watch in an episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/gb\/title\/70264888\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Black Mirror<\/i><\/a>. But is there any truth to it? The details vary but tend to include reference to some of the claims below:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the chips contain RFID technology allow people to be tracked;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the role of Bill Gates or The Gates Foundation in developing and rolling out this technology as a way of tracking who has been vaccinated;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the chip is the \u2018mark of the beast\u2019, a reference to Revelation 13:16.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>What do we know about COVID-19 vaccines and microchips?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passive RFID technology is too large to be injected through a needle; GPS tracking devices require batteries.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gates Foundation has proposed a novel way of embedding dye under the skin when people are vaccinated as a form of medical record; however, the technology is still under development and works through patches not syringes.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201cmark of the beast\u201d regularly pops up in conspiracy theories, often expressing a fear of technology (commonly referencing microchips), governments, and economies.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>RFID technology<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When triggered by an electromagnetic interrogation pulse from a nearby reader device, a passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag can transmit its unique serial number back to the reader. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/passive-components.eu\/what-is-rfid-how-rfid-works-rfid-explained-in-detail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">passive tag is powered by the energy of the incoming radio waves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. RFID tags are widely used. You\u2019ll find them in library books (eliminating the need to scan barcodes to check books in and out) and \u2018chips\u2019 to identify pets. Tags typically need to be within 10cm\u20131m of the powered reader to be activated.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small RFID tags have been successfully implanted in researchers and employees, allowing them convenient access to payment and building access control systems. The antennae are typically encased inside a glass capsule \u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090802111839\/http:\/\/www.healthlinkinfo.com\/faq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12mm x 2mm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 too large to fit through the needle of a syringe.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GPS technology that can actively track your position by triangulating signals from overhead satellites requires battery power, much too large to inject.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Is Bill Gates involved?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/uk-factcheck-coronavirus-bill-gates-micr-idUSKBN21I3EC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fact check examining whether Bill Gates plans to use microchip implants to fight coronavirus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Reuters concludes:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"px-8 md:px-12 relative my-6\">\n\t<h3 class=\"w-full lg:w-7\/12 text-left py-6 text-left quote-block\">Bill Gates foresees the use of \u2018digital certificates\u2019 with health records, but did not say these would be in the form of microchip implants. There are no plans to use this future technology during the coronavirus outbreak.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than using syringes with needles, microneedle patches \u2014 smaller than a thumbnail \u2014&nbsp;are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/health-30309216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being developed&nbsp; to deliver some vaccines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as measles and rubella. An <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cNwVvcXLiWc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">array of tiny sub-millimetre needles underneath the patch puncture the skin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, delivering the vaccine. In testing, patients likened the sensation of the patch being pressed into the skin as an encounter with Velcro.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/uk-factcheck-coronavirus-bill-gates-micr-idUSKBN21I3EC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gates Foundation has helped develop Quantum Dot Dye technology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that can implant a pattern of near-infrared dye \u2014 a tattoo \u2014 under the skin. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2019\/storing-vaccine-history-skin-1218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MIT researcher Kevin McHugh<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explains that \u201cin areas where paper vaccination cards are often lost or do not exist at all, and electronic databases are unheard of, this technology could enable the rapid and anonymous detection of patient vaccination history to ensure that every child is vaccinated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As well as the vaccine, dye contained in nanocrystals could be mounted on some of the needles, forming a pattern specific to the vaccine. The dye remains visible using a special reader for around five years.<\/span><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COVID-19 vaccines are not being delivered through microneedle patches. Quantum Dot Dye technology is still being developed and there are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/uk-factcheck-coronavirus-bill-gates-micr-idUSKBN21I3EC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no plans to use it to fight coronavirus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>The Mark of the Beast?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018mark of the beast\u2019 and the \u2018number of the beast\u2019 is mentioned in the Bible in the book of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Revelation+13%3A15-18&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revelation, chapter 13, verses 15-18<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cThe second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.\u201d (New International Version)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rsc.byu.edu\/shedding-light-new-testament\/understanding-images-symbols-book-revelation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scriptural imagery and symbolism of the mark of the beast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is often <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/religiondispatches.org\/bill-gates-comments-on-covid-19-vaccine-enflame-mark-of-the-beast-worries-in-some-christian-circles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">linked with things that some see as opposing Christianity<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The rise of these supposedly evil people or systems are seen by some as a precursor to \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lifewayresearch.com\/2020\/04\/07\/vast-majority-of-pastors-see-signs-of-end-times-in-current-events\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">end times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 (signs of Jesus\u2019 return and the end of the world). As a sign of enslavement, the mark of the beast regularly pops up in conspiracy theories, often expressing a fear of technology (commonly referencing microchips), governments and economies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming to a conclusion on the mark of the beast is beyond the remit of FactCheckNI: we\u2019ll leave that in the hands of theologians! However, we note the words of Steve Fouch from the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) who recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/premierchristian.news\/en\/news\/article\/medical-expert-s-message-to-christians-who-think-covid-19-vaccine-is-mark-of-the-beast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spoke to Premier Radio about the positive impact vaccines have had on human health<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cThey have eliminated some of the most deadly diseases like smallpox. They have brought under control a lot of other major illnesses that were scourges of the human race for many years. And they have improved the life expectancy of people across the world. So people often hear half-truths and little stories that make them scared about vaccines. But the reality is, they&#8217;re the biggest lifesaving medical technology, except possibly clean water, that we have ever developed.
