A weekend <\/span>news report in the Sunday Life<\/span><\/a> quotes Basile ‘G-Star’ Sery \u2013 who was selling medicinal tea on Facebook \u2013 telling its reporter that it can \u201caid\u201d people suffering from COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sery is also quoted saying \u201cCoronavirus is mucus blocking the oxygen supply and the tea can flush out the mucus\u2026 It can help with coronavirus because it\u2019s an anti-inflammatory. It\u2019s the same as you\u2019ll find in health shops.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A range of false information regarding tea remedies and COVID-19<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Misinformation regarding teas \u201ccuring\u201d COVID-19 have been circulating on social media platforms and messaging apps globally for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have seen claims regarding <\/span>herbal remedies in India<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>\u2018Hydroxychloroquine tea\u2019<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>a false claim<\/span><\/a> which purported to be from a CNN news report, referring to the Chinese doctor Li Wenliang, who first raised concerns about the virus in China and later died of the illness.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other \u201ccures\u201d for COVID-19 <\/span>have also been debunked<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While scientific research into the effect of all kinds of chemicals on the virus continues, there is no evidence yet that any type of tea has any medical effect on the spread of the virus or the effect of its symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, <\/span>according to the World Health Organization<\/span><\/a>, there are no medicines that have yet been shown to prevent or cure COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
