Feedback and Corrections
We encourage feedback and are grateful to everyone who takes the time to get in touch and support us in improving our content. You can contact our editorial team here, or by emailing us at [email protected]
We have to use our resources wisely and cannot respond individually to every piece of feedback.
Every piece of feedback is reviewed by two members of the team. We aim to do this as quickly as possible. All emails are read, but will not necessarily receive an individual response. We aim to do this as quickly as possible, but within two weeks, at the latest. All feedback we receive through our form is logged, and sent directly to our team.
- Corrections and Updates
In the case of minor corrections/updates, where additional information has been added or changes have been made to an article post-publication (with no change to the rating of the article) we will strive to update an article within 24 hours. We are transparent about updates and signpost this in any amended article (often noting that there has been an update near the start, with a description of the change within the main body of the text or at the end). We also republish notifications on our social media channels, with a clear labelling of the updated status of the fact checked article.
If a major/substantive change to a verdict has been made, the same process will apply re: signposting our mistake. We will also undertake a review of the research and editorial process which led to this eventuality, and will republish the accurate article, which will include an explanation of what we think went wrong and what will be doing to prevent this happening in the future.
- Corrections Log
This is a record of corrections we’ve made – or additional information we’ve provided post-publication – in the last three years:
- 24 July 2024. Has the Northern Ireland rail network been cut by some 450 miles since the 1950s?. This article was amended to make clear that the nationalisation of NI rail lines was a gradual process that finished in the 1950s, and with some additions to the table showing line closures from 1950 onwards. The rating is unchanged.
- 4 June 2024. Does a child with a statement have to be placed in their parents’ preferred school?. Based on new information provided to us by a member of the public, we updated this section of the fact check on 4 June 2024 to reflect that the previous five-stage process for meeting a child’s SEN needs has been replaced by a streamlined three-stage process. Both processes operate on the same principles and this does not effect the rest of this fact check. The rating is unchanged.
- 7 November 2023. Does Northern Ireland support abortion? This fact check was amended on 7 November 2022 to include additional information, specifically details about the NIO’s 2019 consultation on the expansion of abortion rights. The rating for the check is unchanged. The additional text is in the final paragraph of the first section (in bold), the section titled “Consultation”, and the penultimate paragraph in the “Conclusion” section (also in bold).
