Kathryn Torney

Board Member

Kathryn is a freelance journalist specialising in data journalism, investigative reporting and research. She enjoys working on creative, high-impact storytelling and collaborating with others to produce projects which matter.


Her previous roles include Editor and Data Editor at investigative new website The Detail, Education Correspondent at the Belfast Telegraph and Principal Data Journalist at the Office for National Statistics.


Kathryn is a three-time winner of the Royal Statistical Society’s Statistical Excellence in Journalism Awards. She is also vice-chair of the board of HIV charity Positive Life and member of a Gillen Review working group, established to develop guidance on the reporting of serious sexual offences.
