Feedback and Corrections

We encourage feedback and are grateful to everyone who takes the time to get in touch and support us in improving our content. You can do so here.

We have to use our resources wisely and cannot respond individually to every piece of feedback.

  • Corrections and Updates

Where appropriate, we will strive to update an article within 24 hours. We are transparent about updates and signpost this in any amended article (often noting that there has been an update near the start, with a description of the change within the main body of the text or at the end).

When we publish significant amendments or updates to FactCheckNI articles on our website (other than correcting spelling mistakes or rewording a phrase for clarity), we also republish notifications on our social media channels, with a clear labelling of the updated status of the fact checked article if the verdict has changed.

If a substantive change to a verdict has been made, we will undertake a review of the research and editorial process which led to this eventuality, and will include an explanation of what we think went wrong.

  • Corrections Log

This is a record of corrections we’ve made – or additional information we’ve provided post-publication – in the last three years:

  • 4 June 2024. Does a child with a statement have to be placed in their parents’ preferred school?. Based on new information provided to us by a member of the public, we updated this section of the fact check on 4 June 2024 to reflect that the previous five-stage process for meeting a child’s SEN needs has been replaced by a streamlined three-stage process. Both processes operate on the same principles and this does not effect the rest of this fact check. The rating is unchanged.
  • 7 November 2023. Does Northern Ireland support abortion? This fact check was amended on 7 November 2022 to include additional information, specifically details about the NIO’s 2019 consultation on the expansion of abortion rights. The rating for the check is unchanged. The additional text is in the final paragraph of the first section (in bold), the section titled “Consultation”, and the penultimate paragraph in the “Conclusion” section (also in bold).
